The following two articles introduce you to the analysis techniques used by geochonologists to do absolute age dating. The first article shows a simple derivation of the "age equation" (it's the same "compound interest equation" that we used to discuss population growth). The second one is more complete, and tells you how to take into account some of the common complications of using radioactive clocks.
