Field Work Notes

On April 3 we collected Gravity, Magnetic and GPS data on Peebles Island. We need to begin processing this data immediately. Here are tasks that need to be tackled:

  1. Photocopy all field notes and leave the copy in the field work folder on the reserve shelf in the library.
  2. Make a plot of all gravity station locations
  3. Make a plot of all magnetic station locations
  4. Enter the gravity data into Xreduce for preliminary analysis.

The following shows a suggested division of labor for these tasks:

TaskTeam
1. Photocopy notes Everyone who has field notes should do this.
2. Plot Gravity stations Jessica, Dan, Micaela
3. Plot Magnetic stations Amy, Ben, Emily
4. Enter Gravity data into Xreduce AmyMarie, Rochelle, Tracey, Eric

The team leaders in indicated in bold. I want to meet with each of these team leaders and discuss these results THIS THURSDAY.

We will have another field trip on Friday morning. Mostly seismic, but we will also try to fill in any holes or correct any mistakes from last time.

NOTE ON MAGNETIC DATA

I downloaded the readings from the magnetometers. As it turns out the variations in the magnetic field at the base station were quite small (< a few gammas) so we needn't worry about making corrections. The raw magnetic data may be found in the file pebrov.mag. A copy of this file is located in the Geophys home directory on gretchen.
